Color Hike


 

Purpose: To improve the student's ability to identify colors.
Season: All
Materials: Paper, pencil, clipboard, color list or chart and container or sack.
TEKS: K.2B,D,E    K.3A,B    K.4A     K.5A,C
Procedure:
  1. Show color chart to pairs of students
  2. Remind them to stay in the designated area or on the designated trail
  3. Look for objects with the different colors. The adult helper should encourage the students to use descriptive words for colors (dull, bright, light, dark, shiny and etc.).
  4. Allow up to 15 minutes to collect or observe objects. Students may pick up loose objects but may not pick flowers or leaves from plants.
  5. Use the tally sheet to tally the number of objects found for each listed color.
  6. Display the color words and have the students identify the correct color word to match their item.
  7. The tally sheets can be taken back to the classroom and the results graphed.
Questions:
  1. Which colors seemed easiest to find?
  2. Which colors were the hardest to find?
  3. Why were some colors easier or harder to find?
