Which Came First?
"Looking into the Past"

TEKS:
The student will be able to:

Science:

(6.2 c) analyze and interpret information to construct reasonable explanations from direct and indirect evidence

(6.3 b) draw inferences based on data related to promotional materials for products and services

Materials:
Pictures of various automobiles, spanning at least 5 decades

Procedure:

• Have students work individually or in-groups.
• Give each a packet of pictures.
• Ask students to arrange them in order from the oldest to the newest.

Questions:

• Which model was the oldest? The newest?
• What was a key characteristic that you used in arranging the pictures?
• What was the most important characteristic and how did you decide this?
• What conclusions can you draw from the order of your arrangement?
• What do you predict the future automobile to look like in 20 years, 50 years, and 100 years?

Evaluation:
Can be either in written answers to the above questions or as class discussion.

Resources:

• Car dealerships may supply pictures of cars, especially at end of year close outs
• Magazines, library references.
