Bellnet Room at Temple College
Temple, Texas

The equipment used by Temple College was manufactured by VTEL.

Computer

A pentium computer may be used to show a slide show or examples of web sites, etc.

VTEL Tablet

The VTEL tablet has a mouse with buttons that allows the user to select
different cameras, select the document reader, mute the site, etc.

The VTEL tablet has several sections on it. The two main sections we used at Temple College were the upper right green section and the lower left section. The mouse used with this tablet is very similar to a PC mouse. Choices are made by clicking the mouse just as one would on a personal computer.
Located at the top right area of the tablet, Buttons 1-4 are for the different cameras that could be in the room. We have two at the Temple College site. One button is used to switch to the document reader. The four arrows allow the camera to be adjusted left, right, up, and down. The focus buttons and zoom buttons allow further control. The PC button allows view of computer screen, i.e., the web.

Located at the lower left of the tablet are the buttons used to "Call" and "Hangup" a distance site (such as Texas A&M University). Also the volume controls are located above these to buttons. The center button allows the Temple College site to mute so that discussion can be carried on without transmitting it to the distance site and without disconnecting.

Monitors, Mics and Cameras

Two large-screen television sets are used. One television allows students at
Temple College to see the students and instructors at the distance site. The
other television allows students at Temple to see themselves
as they are seen
at the distance site. The main camera is located on top of Television 1. The other
camera located at the Temple site is mounted on the wall in the back of the room.
Microphones hang from the ceiling and pick up sound. There are several ceiling
mics in this room.

The Elmo

The document reader used at Temple College is the Elmo. The document reader
allows us to "present" any page or item for view to the distance site as well as
to the students at the Temple site. Controls allow the back light to be on or off.
Text and background colors can be changed to improve the image for
presentation. Focus and zoom buttons can be used to enhance the document
as well.
