Connie F. Hicks

I graduated from Mary Hardin-Baylor University in 1985.  I have a Bachelor of Science degree in education with a specialization   in reading and kindergarten endorsement.  I have been teaching in Rogers since my graduation.

I have taught various grade levels since being in Rogers, kindergarten, second grade and fifth grade.  I have taught self-contained classes.  I have had classes where ability grouping was used and have taught all groups form the lowest to the highest, and I have taught specialized classes where I   taught all of one subject in the grade level.  I taught all the social studies in fifth grade for several years.  That helped me to develop a special interest in history.  I love learning about the past and sharing it with my students.  I believe that our future is shaped by our past and that we as teachers have an obligation to see that all children have an opportunity to learn about their history and the history of our country and the world.

Over the years, I have attended many workshops and training activities.  I have also been involved in many student oriented learning activities.  My students and I have been responsible for the construction of two different playground maps, to be used by all the students of the school.  I was a mentor to a group in our school's very first KAAOC project, Project Shepherd.  The group that I mentored was one of the groups chosen to present their project in New York City at the youth conference.

I am married to David Hicks, who is the coach here at Rogers High School.  I have two children.  Nathan is twenty and is attending Temple College.  Erin is eighteen and will graduate from Rogers High School this year.  My family and I live in Rogers and have lived here since 1976.
