Goal:
Comprehensive academic improvement through ineractive research utilizing a tiered
historical base.
Objectives:
1. New Horizon students will achieve passing or above grades in all
academic areas.
2. New horizon students will present measurable improvement in
a. task initiation
b. task completion
c. communication skills
e. use of research tools
f. the ability to recall and associate concepts
g. receptive/expressive vocabulary
h. reading comprehension
i. use of grammar
j. problem solving
Student Profile:
Candidates for the New Horizons program will be characterized by at least three
of the following.
1. Failing at least one academic area
2. Apperar to be preforming below potential
3. Limited social skills as evidenced by poor relationships and communication with
a. peers
b. adults
4. Conversation, vocabulary reflect limited experiential base to
a. comprehend classroom discussion
b. read with average-above comprehension
c. express thoughts
d. complete problem solving tasks.
5. Not qualified as a resource, content mastery, life skills special education
student.

Pilot Project Schedule
The initial New Horizons project will be initiated in January 2000 and extend for
a fifteen school week period. Students will assemble in the office of the school
counselor on Monday at 2:30. Mystery envelopes and assignments will be given at
random times during the week. Dates and hours of special tours and research projects
will be scheduled during the fifteen week period.
